The following programs are seeking dedicated volunteers:
(NEW!) Mentor Up™ [Sacramento]: Did you know that, according to a new landmark study, training older people in the use of social media improves cognitive capacity, increases a sense of self-competence and could have a beneficial overall impact on mental health and well-being? When it comes to the world of digital, there’s so much youth already know, and so much the older generation could use help with—everything from creating a Facebook page for keeping in touch with friends to using a smartphone for finding recipes. No one wants to be left behind.
We are now recruiting youth between the ages of 12-17 to serve as Digital Coaches for Sacramento-area older adults. Through our staff-supervised Mentor Up™ activities, youth earn valuable community service hours and make a difference in the lives of older people at risk of social isolation.
Consumer Operated Warmline [Sacramento]: Be a supportive listener and voice of encouragement to callers who are having a bad day or just need a friendly person to talk to. This is not a crisis line.
Senior Peer Counseling [Sacramento]: Make a personal connection with an older adult at risk of social isolation. Requires driving.
LGBTQ Youth Leadership and Speakers Bureau [Sacramento]: Are you a youth or young adult who identifies as a member or ally of the LGBTQ community? Are you interested in building community supports for LGBTQ youth in South Sacramento or open to sharing your experiences growing up LGBTQ with others? If so, consider volunteering for our LGBTQ youth programs!
Sierra Wind Wellness & Recovery Center [Jackson]: Facilitate a support group, provide one-on-one peer mentoring to clients, or help the center with daily tasks. There is always work to be done at Sierra Wind!
