Certified Peer Support Specialist Leadership Liaison Program

Welcome to the Cal Voices' Certified Peer Support Specialist Leadership Liaison Program (CPS-LLP). We provide programs to build workplace supports for Peers working in Sacramento County's Behavioral Health System (BHS). Our activities help create and sustain a more psychologically healthy, recovery-oriented, and peer-friendly work environment. This page provides information about our upcoming CE trainings for Certified Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialists (CMPSS) and Peer employers in Sacramento County. These trainings are free and open to anyone living or working in Sacramento County.

On this page, we also provide information about registering for trainings available on our online learning management system (LearnWorlds) to view online versions of past trainings. This option is ONLY for Peer Support workers and Peer Employers in Sacramento County.

Upcoming Training Courses

Peer Trainings

Peer trainings provide continuing education credit (CE) for CMPSS workers in Sacramento County to assist them with meeting their CE requirements for recertification. These courses are also open to employers. Participants are provided with a Certification of Completion at the end of each training. Non-Sacramento County CMPSS and employers may attend and are eligible for CE credits.

Non-Violent Communication Part 2

February 20, 2025 | 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM | On Zoom

Part Two of Introduction to Nonviolent Communication will focus on how individuals can use nonviolent communication to actively listen to understand others’ needs and forge mutual solutions to proactively address challenges before minor setbacks evolve into major performance or interpersonal issues. Prerequisite: Introduction to Nonviolent Communication, Part 1: Core Concepts of Nonviolent Communication

Strategies for Success at Work

April 17, 2025 | 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM | On Zoom

This interactive, situation-based training teaches work skills to peers to enhance their professional careers in behavioral health settings. Topics include: Identifying and overcoming barriers to employment success, how to function as part of a team, and how to meet common expectations related to workplace behavior, communication, and performance.

Peer Employer Trainings

Peer Employer trainings provide valuable information to Peer Employers in Sacramento County about developing, expanding, and retaining a diverse peer workforce. These courses are also open to CMPSS workers. Continuing Education (CE) credits are available for each training. Participants receive a Certification of Completion at the end of each training.  Non-Sacramento County CMPSS and employers may attend and are eligible for CE credits.

Core Competencies for Peer Employers of Peer Support Specialists

February 26, 2025 | 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM | On Zoom

The culture of the entire organization is impacted when Peer Support Specialists are hired. Change is hard and takes time and consistent effort to accomplish. It is a necessary component of growth and systems improvement. This course will discuss core competencies all organizations must possess to ensure the success of Peer-provided services.

Creating Pathways for Career Advancement and Wage Growth for Peer Support Specialist Positions

April 30, 2025 | 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM | On Zoom

Peer Support Specialists are often relegated to entry-level or low-paying jobs without opportunities for professional growth or advancement. Supervisors, managers, and organizational leadership can create development paths for Peers and career ladder to ensure talented peers remain engaged and invested. This course discusses the need for creating advancement and financial opportunities for peers.

The Certified Peer Support Specialist Leadership Liaison Program is pleased to announce that our previous live courses are now available online in LearnWorlds. Peers and employers in Sacramento County can register for free. All courses are self-paced and accessible 24/7. This option is exclusively available to individuals working as a CMPSS or those employing CMPSS workers in Sacramento County.

  • Foundations of Peer Support (No CE Credit available)

  • Trauma-Informed Peer Support (1 hour CE credit)

  • Recovery Concepts (1.25 hour CE credit)

  • Self-Care and Stress Management (1 hour CE credit )

  • Managing and Evaluating Peer Performance (1 hour CE credit)

  • Psychological Health and Safety (No CE Credit available)

  • Intro to Recovery Planning (1.25 hours CE credit)

Courses with "No CE Credit Available" do not count toward the CMPSS renewal requirements.
